In 2008 Supporters Direct surveyed individual members of Supporters Trusts discussing various things. One of the most striking statistics was the gender breakdown; of the 1,200 responses only 14% were from women, which also matched the number of respondents who listed themselves as Trust Board Members.
Fast forward to today and the number of women in the movement appears fairly consistent with 2008 based on the makeup of our database and the trust board contacts on it.
What we do know is that the contribution from some of these women dwarfs that statistic so we wanted to take an opportunity to celebrate some of the fantastic women at the core of the Supporters Trust Movement. As well as dedicating some time to highlight their achievements and the vital roles they play, we were keen to get their thoughts on how we can level the gender balance.
We spoke to Katrina Law, Co-Chair at Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust, Jane Lonsdale of supporter-owned AFC Wimbledon and board member of The Dons Trust, former SD Board Member and current SD Rugby League Council member Liz Hindley from Widnes Trust, Kristine Green, board member at Grimsby’s Mariners Trust, Supporters Direct Head of Casework and Constitutional Jacqui Forster and SD Scotland Chair Morag McHaffie to find out how they became involved in the Movement and what their various roles entail.
