Supporters Direct to welcome European Champions to 2009 Conference
European Champions FC Barcelona - the World's most famous fan-owned club - are to speak at the Supporters Direct annual conference in Birmingham on 16 October.
Addressing
the conference will be Lander Unzueta, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer,
who is in charge of the Club's current marketing drive to expand its membership
beyond Catalonia and Spain.
He is on
the board of the Club with President, Joan Laporta and his appearance continues
the link between the club and the Supporters' Trust movement.
In 1999
Laporta addressed the then SD Conference as an activist seeking change for his
club through the independent ‘Elefant Blau'
group. He was elected 3 years later and has since transformed the club's
finances, whilst delivering unprecedented on-field success.
Dave Boyle, SD's Chief Executive said about Unzueta's appearance,
"Lander will be in the company of friends, and we know that our delegates will take inspiration from what he has to say about the importance of how fans can control the destiny of a club.
"Barcelona fans have the power to bring their views to bear on their Club, and at key times have done so and fans in the UK look enviously at that power"
