Cardiff City Supporters Trust to 'press ahead with EGM'

Cardiff City Supporters' Trust is to press ahead with its efforts to force a special meeting of shareholders to demand answers on the football club's financial position.

Board members decided to act after receiving a letter from Cardiff City Football Club (Holdings) Ltd Secretary and Board member Alan Whiteley which failed to give the expected firm commitment on the timing of a promised meeting.

Paul Corkrey, chairman of the Trust, said: "We received a response from the club this week but unfortunately the letter did not provide the positive commitment, along with a firm date for the meeting, that we would have expected.

"As a result we will be writing to all shareholders, who number more than 700, to seek their support for the calling of an extraordinary general meeting of the club.

"We believe Bluebirds fans deserve complete transparency both on the club's financial position, as it stands now, and the situation going forward.  Supporters need answers and the Trust is determined to get them.

"The Trust remains bitterly disappointed that promises given to fans buying their season tickets early that the money would be spent on strengthening the squad were broken."

The Trust has to obtain pledges from people who hold five per cent of the shares held - around two million shares - to force a meeting. Shareholders will be asked by the Trust, which has more than 600 members, to sign a letter agreeing to back the call for the special meeting.

In its letter to shareholders, the Trust said that the aim of the General Meeting was to give the board of directors an opportunity to outline their future plans for Cardiff City and detail the club's viability in the short, medium and long term. It said it was hoped that this meeting would serve as a vehicle to alleviate the growing concerns of existing shareholders, supporters and prospective investors.

Alan Whiteley told the Trust in a letter that it was "likely" that the directors would call a general meeting within six to eight weeks as a result of a number of issues currently under consideration coming to fruition.

The Trust will be holding a special open meeting for fans to discuss the current situation at the club. It will take place at the Duke of Clarence pub in Clive Road, Canton, Cardiff, on Monday, February 1st, at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
